Have Your Cake and Eat it Too!
Oh the stories I could tell you about cakes….some endearing and wonderful….others that make you blink wondering what were they thinking???….and many of them so horrific that you feel like there should be a relief fund opened up just to help the bride and groom recover from their unfortunate humiliation.
Keep in mind that your wedding cake will be one of the main focal points of the evening. Of course first and foremost everyone anticipates seeing the bride, polished to perfection. Her wedding gown, the shoes, the incredibly beautiful hairstyle and the amazing bouquet…but after all of that is admired they are off to see the cake.
Be sure to choose a designer that specializes in Wedding Cakes! There is so much more to engineering a cake than you might imagine. Decide within your own heart just how important the cake really is to you. There are so many different cakes to choose from, so take your time and choose the one that whispers or even shouts your name. Remember that butter cream iced cakes are generally less expensive than fondant, and obviously the more intricate the detail the more expensive the cost of the cake will be. Wedding cakes are edible works of art. Hours go into their design.
As with all aspects of your wedding, have a budget in mind and don’t hesitate to ask your designer what options your have at that price point. Often with the help of a talented cake designer the cake of your dreams can be created within your price range simply by making the cake a bit smaller or by making slight adjustments to the design. Butter cream cakes are also a little easier to slice and serve. I realize that not everyone chooses to cut and serve their cake, but I must admit that one of my favorite events at any wedding is when the cake is cut and served to the guests. It seems like such a genuine gesture of gratitude and celebration orchestrated by a host who knows exactly how to cut a cake such as this. So if its not too much to ask…please have your cake and eat it too!
