Cermony Purple Sashes

Love is blind!

I have made a career that revolves around people falling in love. I have had the opportunity to admire new love, puppy love, compassionate love, rekindled love, and pure enduring love. Along with the love between the bride and the groom I continually have the chance to see father’s who love and adore their daughters, and mother’s who can’t help but cry bitter sweet tears of love as they watch their son or daughter whom they once spent hours teaching to walk, take their first steps into adulthood.

Our staff has watched countless couples express their love in sincere and tender words as they exchanged vows. There are some of these that fade with time, but others that glow brighter as the years go by, enriching my own love as I remember unforgettable touching moments…We had a groom who received a call just days before his wedding day, informing him that they had a donor match for him to receive a double cornea transplant.

Having waited so long for a chance to restore his sight he knew that he couldn’t pass up a chance such as this, and so he chose to undergo the surgery. On his wedding day he removed the bandages from his eyes before leaving the grooms’ room. Squinting behind the dark sunglasses he cautiously walked to the front of the South conservatory in our other wedding reception center that is located in Layton, Utah and waited anxiously for his bride to walk down the aisle.

As she came to the top of the staircase she paused for the audience to rise. He removed the glasses…tears streaming down his cheeks. The audience stood, everyone of them with tears in their eyes as we all witnessed this trusting groom see his fiances face literally for the first time in his life. It is moments like this that remind us how truly precious and remarkable love really is. We have come to understand the words in the ceremony “…for better or for worse, in sickness and in health…” and gratefully through the eyes of one brave man we have come to know that if we try hard enough we can see with our hearts, because true love looks beyond the blemishes and weaknesses…real love truly is blind.
